Abstract

Classical ruins in South Sumatra are often engrossed in the existence of the Srivijaya kingdom in the past. This is because the reign of Srivijaya lasted a long time from the VII century to the XIV century AD. One of the classical or Hindu influences is the Bumiayu temple in the village of Bumiayu in the Tanah Abang sub-district. The Bumiayu temple complex is a joint temple complex between Buddhists and Hindus. Based on these findings, it is interesting to study how temples for Hindu worship can coexist with Buddhist temples. The purpose is to describe the Hindu place of worship during the Srivijayan era at Bumiayu Temple. This research method uses a historical methodology. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the Bumiayu temple is a place of relics and worship of gods as well as a place of worship for the ancestors of Hindus during the Sriwijaya era.

Many women in Indonesia have advanced in their education. Many also enter the public sphere and play a dual role. The inclusion of women in the public sphere is a portrait of the independence of Indonesian women. The purpose of this study is to explore and analyze the leadership performed by Balinese Hindu women on the dynamics of Hindu Religious University (PTKH) in Denpasar. The discussion is carried out using phenomenological theory, which provides an interpretation or meaning of the subjective, phenomenological experiences of Balinese Hindu women leaders on the dynamics of PTKH as human resource development. This research was conducted with a qualitative design, using in-depth interview techniques and literature study. The conclusions obtained are: 1) the task is carried out by managing the time allocation between the domestic-public carefully, responsibly, and committed; 2) in problem solving, Hindu women's leadership style uses situational leadership style; 3) prioritizing a work culture based on kinship, proper communication, working smart, working sincerely, and based on regulations/procedures, so that they dare to appear in a healthy competition; 4) lifelong learning.

Abstract

The problem in this research is the public response against the Balinese ngurek tradition. This research discusses the reinterpretation of a Hindu religious ritual in Bali, namely the ngurek ritual or often referred to as ngunying. This religious ritual is quite unique and extreme so it has many meanings. This type of research is a qualitative research with reference to Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory. This data collection was obtained through youtube with comments and also the results of interviews with one of the informants. Data analysis with data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that the topics that appear in the comments are not limited to traditional rituals. The material also involves involvement and controversy between the religious rituals of ngurek and Hindu rituals in Bali simultaneously. The new thing that can be known is that the ngurek tradition is an ancient Balinese custom, where a spirit invitation ceremony is held. The spirits are asked to enter into the designated body and be a sign that the invited spirit will be present. The ngurek tradition is also believed to invite Ida Bhatara and Rereancang (his soldiers) to receive offerings during the ceremony.

Abstract

Djawi Vishnu Buddhists’ belief teaches its followers to respect and love those who intercede for God's will as a result the individual self exists in this world. If there is an imbalance between the Bhuwana Agung (the universe) and Bhuwana Alit (the human self) a catastrophe can occur in the lives of Djawi Vishnu Buddhists. The text of the Weddo Djojo Sampurno book contains several quotes that emphasize the beauty of nature as a reflection of the Bhuwana Agung and the sincerity of meditation as a reflection of Bhuwana Alit. This aims of this study is to figure out the Buddhist theology of Djawi Vishnu as a discourse of worship presented to Gusti Hulun Hyang Bhatara Wisnu in his manifestation as the ruler of the universe based on love and compassion. The love and affection intended are capable of loving oneself or Ingsun who is aware of the existence of the universe as a place to interact with other living things. The theory applied in this study is the semiotic theory proposed by Roland Barthes in terms of the meaning of the second level. The data being applied was qualitative data.  Further, primary data sources are manuscripts, Weddo Djojo Sampurno books and secondary data sources include research results, books, internet sources. The research instruments were a dictionary as a medium for translating Javanese text into the target language translation. At the stage of presenting the results of this research data analysis were analyzed using formal methods and informal methods. As a result, it was found that the sincerity of meditation based on compassion as a form of controlling the concentration of the mind towards Gusti was aimed at the highest awareness. Abstract

Language is a means of communication, and it is also as an introduction to culture; therefore, it is essential for a community to maintain its regional language. The Balinese regional language is one of the languages which still exists today; however, there is concern that the Balinese language (especially those which are outside Bali island) will no longer be able to survive due to the use of local languages, Indonesian and foreign languages in the future, especially used in educational institutions. In addition to formal educational institutions, the maintenance of the language can also be applied in Hindu religious education institutions such as pasraman. Pasraman is considered to have a crucial role of Balinese language preservation in non-formal educational institutions, particularly for children (bala) and youths (yowana). This study aimed to examine the role of pasraman in preserving Balinese language (oral and written) in West Lombok Regency. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach and the data collection methods used were the speaking and the listening method. The results of this study indicated that pasraman as a non-formal Hindu religious education institution had a very important role in the Balinese language maintenance. The preservation of the Balinese language in the pasraman consisted of two areas, namely the maintenance of written and spoken language. The maintenance of the former was conducted by teaching Balinese script (introduction to a writing system of Balinese script, writing Balinese script and reading Balinese script), while preservation of the latter was conducted by language interaction between acarya and brahmacari and interaction between fellow brahmacari uttering Balinese language in the pasraman environment during both the teaching learning process and after-school activities.
